Hicks Field Sewer Corp.

No further Superfund environmental response actions are required at this former treatment plant in Saginaw, Tarrant County.

Site Summary

The 3.8 acre Hicks Field Sewer Corporation site is located at 10017 Hicks Field Road in Fort Worth, approximately 0.75 miles east of the intersection of N. Saginaw Blvd and Hicks Field Road. From the early 1970s to 1994, Hicks Field Sewer Corp. provided the Hicks Field Business Park with waste water services.

The waste water treatment facility consisted of two sludge drying beds, two earthen storage tanks, and two concrete separator tanks. A metal finishing business which operated at the business park from the early 1970s to 1981 reportedly discharged process rinse waters containing metals to the waste water treatment system.

Superfund Registry and Investigation

The TCEQ proposed the site to the state Superfund registry in 2002. From 2002 through 2005, the TCEQ conducted a remedial investigation at the facility and found cadmium, chromium, and zinc exceeding the protective concentration levels (PCLs) in soil and sediment samples. The PCLs were calculated based upon a future commercial/industrial land use.

Remedial Action

In 2006 through 2007, the TCEQ dismantled the waste water treatment facility. Soils and sediments that exceeded PCLs were excavated and sent off-site for proper disposal. Upon completing this removal action, it was determined that no further remediation was needed at the site.

The site was deleted from the state Superfund registry in 2008, and a deed notice was filed in the real property records limiting the site to commercial/industrial use.

Current Status

No further Superfund environmental response actions are required. The site was cleaned up to commercial/industrial standards.
