Angus Road Groundwater Plume

The groundwater at this Ector County site is contaminated with 1,2-dichloroethane, 1,2,3-trichloropropane, and manganese from an unknown source. The site is in the remedial investigation (RI) phase.

Site Summary

The Angus Road Groundwater Plume site underlies the 4300 block of Angus Road, approximately four blocks northwest of the city limits of Odessa, Texas. The plume is bounded by West 47th Street to the north, Johnson Street to the west, Kermit Highway to the south, and Cessna Avenue and Brahma Road to the east.

The area consists of mixed commercial/industrial and residential properties. A variety of businesses operate in the area, including light industrial fabricators, warehouses, storage facilities, and oil and gas production wells.

Since 2004, groundwater samples collected from private and public water wells by the TCEQ have detected 1,2-dichloroethane, 1,2,3-trichloropropane, and manganese at concentrations above the Tier 1 residential protective concentration levels for groundwater ingestion established by the Texas Risk Reduction Program.

Superfund Registry and Investigation

In June 2010, the TCEQ proposed the site to the state Superfund registry and published a community relations plan. The TCEQ began the remedial investigation of the site in November 2010 to determine the nature and extent of the groundwater contamination.

Current Status

The site is in the remedial investigation phase.
