SWAP GPS Update Tools
The most accurate means for collecting spatial information is by
using global positioning system (GPS) technology. The safest, most
convenient way to submit this data to the TCEQ SWAP team is
electronically. The SWAP team has set up a dedicated GPS e-mail
account. Qualified individuals who collect and submit GPS data for
either PWS or PSOC data updates may e-mail their data to the
account. The e-mail administrator will determine whether the data
is acceptable and either upload the data or notify the sender that
the submission is unacceptable.
The following resources are designed to aid those who wish to
collect and submit GPS data that pertains to PWSs or PSOCs.
What Types of GPS Technology Are Acceptable?
Our operating policy and procedure for GPS (TCEQ OPP 8.12) describes what GPS technology
may be used. As a rule of thumb, only professional-grade GPS
receivers with an accuracy threshold of 2–5 meters are
considered acceptable. Recreational GPS receivers are not
acceptable.
Are There Special Qualifications for Submitting GPS Data?
TCEQ OPP 8.12 allows only those
individuals who have received training from a qualified instructor
to collect and submit
GPS data to TCEQ. Manufacturer-certified training is
considered acceptable if it meets the criteria. We do not provide
GPS training (except to our own employees), but we may issue GPS
certificate numbers to professionals with appropriate training.
