Requesting a Saltwater Disposal Letter

A saltwater disposal letter is one of three types of groundwater protection recommendation (GWPR) letters issued by the TCEQ.

To request a saltwater disposal letter, submit these items (use a different procedure to amend a letter issued this calendar year):

  • A copy of your completed RRC form W-14 ( Instructions for RRC form W-14)
  • A location map with abstracted surveys
  • If there is one or more existing GWPR letters for this well:
    • and the most recent letter is less than five years old, a copy of that letter
    • but the most recent letter is at least five years old, a new form TCEQ-0051
  • If there is no existing GWPR letter for this well, a new form TCEQ-0051
  • A copy of an electric log:
    • for this well, if you are dealing with an existing well
    • for a nearby well that is deep enough to show the proposed injection zone, if you are drilling a new well

Send us your request by regular U.S. mail or by an overnight express service.

When you receive your saltwater disposal letter, you must attach it to your RRC permit. The RRC relies on information in this letter to design an appropriate surface casing program for each saltwater disposal well.
