For the second year in a row, one of Frank Barrera’s students at Driscoll Elementary has won the grand prize in the Take Care of Texas Kindergarten through 5th grade art contest. Fourth grader Delilah Saenz’ colorful, detailed drawing of a wooden sign with the program’s slogan triumphed over 3,275 other entries statewide.

“Even though they’re in elementary school, I still have high expectations for all of my students,” Barrera says. “I am very excited that she won.”

Students submit artwork showing how they help keep the air and water clean, conserve water and energy, and reduce waste. Take Care of Texas is a statewide campaign from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality that provides helpful information on the state’s successes in environmental protection.

The winning art pieces are showcased on TakeCareOfTexas.org.
