The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) today
approved penalties totaling $585,590 against 69 regulated entities
for violations of state environmental regulations.
Agreed orders were issued for the following enforcement
categories: 17 air quality, three dry cleaner, two Edwards Aquifer,
three field citations, two industrial hazardous waste, one licensed
irrigator, four multi-media, four municipal solid waste, eight
municipal waste discharge, six petroleum storage tank, five public
water system, one sludge, one wastewater operator, and four water
quality. In addition, there were default orders issued for the
following categories: two dry cleaner, five petroleum storage tank,
and one public water supply.
Included in the total fine figure is a penalty of $230,176
against Delek Refining, Ltd. in Smith County. The fines are the
result of 25 reporting, excess production, equipment failure,
monitoring, inspection, and notification violations stemming from
investigations in June, July, and December 2006.
The TCEQ's next agenda meeting is scheduled for Oct.24. Agenda
