The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) in
partnership with the San Antonio River Authority (SARA) has
scheduled two public meetings to provide updates to the public on
the development of a Total Maximum Daily Load addressing bacteria
in the Lower San Antonio River, Segment 1901 in the San Antonio
River Basin.
Monday, March 3, 2008, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at the Parish
Hall at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church
207 N. Commercial, Goliad, Texas
Wednesday, March 5, 2008, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m., Karnes City
Hall
314 East Calvert, Karnes City, Texas
The project is designed to develop and implement a TMDL for the
Lower San Antonio River watershed for the pollutant(s) listed on
the State of Texas Clean Water Act 303(d) List. The state of Texas
requires that the water quality in Segment 1901 be suitable for
swimming, wading, fishing, and a healthy aquatic ecosystem. Water
quality sampling has indicated that bacteria levels are sometimes
higher than the standard established to assure safe contact
recreation (i.e. swimming, wading, etc.).
A segment definition of the Lower San Antonio River is
as follows:
1901 Lower San Antonio River from the confluence with
the Guadalupe River in Refugio/Victoria County to a point 600
meters (660 yards) downstream of FM 791 at Mays Crossing near Falls
City in Karnes County
The agenda for the meeting includes presentations on the TMDL
process, Load Duration Curves (LDCs), proposed work, and questions.
The public is invited. More information on the project can be found
on the
TCEQ Lower San Antonio River: A TMDL Project for Bacteria Web
page.
