Idea:

Please consider annual training courses for staff and managers to be on a less frequent basis unless it is mandated by legislature/rules or EPA. One time training for those courses with refreshers every 3 years should suffice and save many staff hours.

Idea:

Have the office employees unplug or turn off their power cords/docking stations (anything they do not need) over the weekends so that the agency can save some money on electricity.

Idea:

Turn off facility lights at the end of the business day. The lights are left on all night long. Not only does this waste electricity and therefore money, but requires lightbulbs to be replaced sooner rather than later which is also more money.

Idea:

*Switching to energy conserving and less intense lumens of overhead lighting in the office. *turning off un needed lights (such as out of office days, when adequate natural light is available, or getting a consensus from staff if they prefer to have the overhead lights off (in their office section) or a lamp to bring/ brighten their cube/ office.

Idea:

Eliminate the use of the pre-printed letterhead. Printing letters on this letterhead is cumbersome and leads to errors requiring duplicate print jobs. It is also an unnecessary expense for the TCEQ that does not have any tangible benefit.

Idea:

Poll employees about access to appliances and determine need. In some common areas, there are several old appliances that are no longer in use but are still plugged in thus consuming energy. Appliances can be anything from fridges to printers.

Idea:

We have several rooms in the IHW Reg & Reporting section based on the 1st floor in Bldg D that could use an occupancy/vacancy sensor on the lights. These are file room, media storage/copier room, etc. With vacancy control, users manually turn on lights, but lights automatically turn off when a space is vacant. This would impact the electric bill and lengthen the life of the bulb which is an additional cost savings. There are more rooms in Building D and across the entire campus which would benefit from an occupancy/vacancy sensor. Thus multiplying the monthly savings by ten-fold and more. Sensors in meeting rooms save at least 50% of normal energy use. At an average rate of $0.11/kWh, we save about $127 a year in one room alone. In IHW Reg & Reporting we have 5 rooms which would be a savings of over $600/year just in our section. Multiply $127 across the campus and the savings would be in the thousands of dollars.

Idea:

The letters in PIRCS require a lot of modification before they are suitable for emailing to a requester. Can OAS make some revisions to this letter so it created a clean(er) record so no or less modifications are needed.

Idea:

At Park35-BldgA there are 4 dumpsters, 3 landfill and 1 recycle. 1 of the landfill dumpsters is used and the recycle is always full. Plus the trash truck empties all even though they're empty. Recommend 2 recycle and 1 landfill dumpsters.

Idea:

I go into the breakroom the lights will be on with no one in the room. I walk through the cube farms on my floor and all the lights are on yet no one is working. I suggest getting motion sensor light switches. At my last state agency we had these in all offices and cube farms. They worked wonderfully and probably save a lot of power.
